Jabbarli: Number of Azerbaijani doctors working in Germany rising fast

Ramazan Jabbarli, a neurosurgeon and professor at Essen University Hospital, says the number of Azerbaijani doctors working in Germany has grown significantly in recent years, with these specialists helping to strengthen medical and scientific ties between the two countries.

Speaking on the topic of Azerbaijani doctors in Germany, Professor Ramazan Jabbarli made the remarks at the 6th annual conference of the Association of Azerbaijani Medical Doctors (AMD), held in Germany. He noted that he himself has worked as a doctor in Germany for 21 years, spending nine of them at Freiburg University Hospital and the remaining 12 at Essen University Hospital.

According to the professor, his clinic receives applications from several young Azerbaijani medical students almost every month. Their goal is to gain practical experience in Germany, sharpen their professional skills and eventually secure a place in residency training. Some of these young people stay on to build their careers in Germany, while others bring the experience they have gained back home to apply it in Azerbaijan.

Jabbarli recalled that when he arrived in Germany in 2005, he knew only three or four Azerbaijani doctors there. Today the picture is entirely different, he said, with three separate organizations now operating in the country to bring Azerbaijani medical professionals together and support their cooperation and career development.

AMD’s role highlighted

The professor praised the work of such associations, particularly the AMD. He said these organizations create new connections between experienced specialists and young doctors and students, expand professional networks, and organize various scientific events and conferences.

Jabbarli said one of the most valuable outcomes of this work is the formation of solid scientific and professional ties between Azerbaijani medical specialists living and working in Germany and Azerbaijan itself. He stressed that such links carry great value both for the future of young medical professionals and for the shared work of the two countries in healthcare and science.
