Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is doubling the number of daily Baku-Tbilisi-Baku services starting tomorrow. Tickets in standard-class carriages will start from 36 manats.
Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is increasing total passenger capacity on the Baku-Tbilisi train route from 386 to 564 seats, a rise of roughly 50%. The company said the move responds to growing passenger traffic between the two countries and aims to give travelers more choice on the route.
On the newly added services, tickets in what was previously known as platzkart-class carriages will start at 36 manats. That represents a discount of around 30% compared with current fares on the route.
The minimum fare varies by departure point: 54 manats from Baku to Tbilisi, 44 manats from Yevlakh, 41 manats from Ganja, 38 manats from Aghstafa, and 36 manats from Boyuk Kesik station. By comparison, the cheapest ticket in comfort-class Stadler carriages currently costs 77.50 manats on the Baku-Tbilisi route and 56.80 manats from Ganja.
New train schedule
The existing Baku-Tbilisi-Baku train departs Baku at 23:10 and arrives in the Georgian capital at 08:41 the next morning. On the return leg, the train leaves Tbilisi at around 11:00 and arrives back in Baku at 20:26.
The new train will depart Baku daily at 09:10 and reach Tbilisi at 19:11. On the return journey, it will leave Tbilisi at 22:00 and arrive in Baku at 07:57 the following morning. The addition gives passengers the option of a daytime journey alongside the existing overnight service.
ADY officials said the launch of the extra services follows lengthy technical and organizational preparations between the two sides. The company added it will continue working to improve service quality and meet demand in international passenger transportation.
