Azerbaijani wrestlers Najafzada, Suleymanov win gold in Vladikavkaz

Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers Elvin Najafzada and Javanshir Suleymanov won gold medals in their weight categories at an international tournament in Vladikavkaz, Russia.

According to the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, Azerbaijani wrestlers claimed gold medals at an international tournament named after Olympic champion David Musulbes, held in Vladikavkaz, Russia, on October 10-11. The event brought together more than 300 young wrestlers from 15 countries, competing in the under-16 age category.

The Azerbaijani team was prepared by Emin Azizov, head coach of the U15 national squad, together with coach Elshad Allahverdiyev. Two of their athletes advanced all the way to the finals and were awarded medals.

European champion Elvin Najafzada went unbeaten in all his bouts in the 85-kilogram category to take first place. European medalist Javanshir Suleymanov matched that feat in the 44-kilogram category, also securing gold without a single loss.

The tournament was officiated by Nihad Muradov, a category III international referee.
