Azerbaijan’s methanol output falls 25.2% in nine months

Azerbaijan produced 269,400 tonnes of methanol between January and September, down 25.2% from the same period of 2025, the State Statistics Committee has reported.

According to the State Statistics Committee, Azerbaijan’s methanol production dropped to 269,400 tonnes in the first nine months of the year, a 25.2% decline compared with the same period last year. As of October 1, stocks of finished methanol stood at 38,100 tonnes, reflecting the volume of product left in warehouses since the start of the year.

Methanol in Azerbaijan is produced at the Methanol Plant operated by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), located in Baku’s Garadagh district. The plant was commissioned in 2013 and has been run since 2016 by SOCAR Methanol LLC, a subsidiary of SOCAR.

Since August 2017, the plant has been fully owned by SOCAR Methanol LLC. The facility has an annual production capacity of 650,000-700,000 tonnes of methanol, using natural gas and desalinated water as raw materials.
