Hajiyev: Visa-free travel period with Japan could be extended

Hikmat Hajiyev, a senior Azerbaijani presidential aide, has said the visa-free entry regime for Japanese citizens, due to expire in July 2027, could be extended. He added it would make sense for the arrangement to apply equally to both countries.

Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said the visa-free regime for Japanese citizens, which is set to expire in July 2027, could be prolonged. He made the comment during a session on combating disinformation and the language of peace, held as part of an event on cultural and media ties in Baku.

Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan introduced visa-free entry for Japanese citizens about a year ago, and the arrangement is expected to be extended further.

The diplomat stressed that Azerbaijan would like the initiative to work on a reciprocal basis, since many Azerbaijani citizens also wish to travel to Japan. He underlined the importance of applying the move under equal conditions for both countries.
