Azerbaijan’s national silk producer Azeripek has been selected for an international trade program in China held with the participation of China’s Ministry of Commerce. The company arrives in China as its exports have tripled.
According to the organizers, Azeripek OJSC (Azəripək ASC) was chosen from hundreds of applications by Azerbaijani companies to take part in the Seminar on China Exposure for SMEs of the Belt and Road Countries (Phase VI). The program runs from October 28 to November 10, 2026, with the participation of China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM). The company is represented by Anar Dadashev, chairman of its management board.
The 14-day program covers Beijing, Chongqing, Yiwu, Hangzhou and Shanghai and focuses on expanding Chinese imports, e-commerce, logistics and direct B2B contacts. A highlight will be the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE 2026) in Shanghai on November 5-10, which is expected to draw more than 4,000 foreign exhibitors from 162 countries, regions and international organizations. There, Azeripek will present natural Azerbaijani silk products to Chinese and international buyers.
Expanding export markets
For the company, the move into China continues the work of 2024-2026. According to published data, Azeripek’s exports totaled $300,000 in January-August 2026, three times the $100,000 recorded in the same period of 2025. Under Dadashev’s leadership, the company has been working successfully to optimize production, strengthen the link between production and sales and make higher value-added products, while keeping the full cycle from cocoon processing to fabrics and kelaghayi.
Based in Shaki and marking its 100th anniversary this year, Azeripek continues to play a key role in developing Azerbaijan’s sericulture. In 2026, the company distributed nearly 6,500 boxes of silkworm eggs among producers in 40 districts of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. In the Zagatala, Aghjabadi and Balakan districts alone, about 500 farmers took up silkworm breeding, and more than 4,000 people are involved nationwide. For the first time, the program covers Khojaly district, where 85 hectares of new mulberry plantations are to be used for sericulture. These figures reflect the scale of Azeripek’s work to strengthen its raw material base, support rural producers and develop sericulture in the regions.
Retail collections and House of Silk
The company has introduced the kelaghayi scarf and accessory lines “Palace of the Shaki Khans”, “Carpet Schools”, “Pearl Garden” and “Revival”, and exports natural Azerbaijani silk to Canada under its premium ZÖVQA brand. In Icherisheher, Baku’s historic Old City, it opened House of Silk, a store offering traditional kelaghayi and contemporary silk collections.
Traditional export destinations include Russia, Türkiye, Iran, India and Ukraine, and the company is developing contacts, including with Canada. In June 2026, it shipped silkworm larvae to Uzbekistan for the first time.
The China program and the Shanghai expo offer a chance to widen the customer base and turn contacts into new contracts.
