Germany agrees to extradite Elmir Nuriyev to Azerbaijan

Germany has agreed to extradite Azerbaijani citizen Elmir Elkhan oglu Nuriyev, who was wanted internationally, back to Azerbaijan. The announcement was made by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The extradition of Elmir Nuriyev was agreed after the Prosecutor General’s Office sent an official request to Germany’s Federal Office of Justice, submitted the necessary documents and held talks between the two countries.

Nuriyev is suspected of posing as the head of a company and making false promises to residents about home renovation work, according to a criminal case being investigated by the Sumgayit City Police Department. He is accused of abusing people’s trust and defrauding them, causing substantial financial damage to victims.

Because the suspect had been evading the investigation, he was placed on an international wanted list through Interpol’s National Central Bureau. Investigators subsequently established that Nuriyev was in Germany, where he was detained.

The relevant procedures for bringing him back to Azerbaijan are now underway.
