Baku hosts first-ever FIFA U-15 World Championship

Baku is hosting a World Championship and festival for footballers under 15 for the first time in its history. Teams from 189 countries will take part, with Azerbaijan represented by its U-16 national team under head coach Famil Khalilov.

The FIFA U-15 World Championship kicks off in Baku, with representatives from 189 countries taking part in around a thousand matches overall. Alongside the opening and closing ceremonies, the tournament’s first and final matches will be held at the Crystal Hall venue.

Azerbaijan will be represented by its U-16 national team, led by head coach Famil Khalilov. The team has been drawn into Group AF alongside Andorra, Australia, Haiti, Israel and Timor-Leste, and will compete against all five sides.

Azerbaijan’s opening match of the tournament will be against Timor-Leste at 19:30. The official opening ceremony of the World Championship takes place the same day at 19:00, also at the Crystal Hall.
