Quba Sports Complex director arrested over embezzlement topping 500,000 manats

The director and accountant of the Quba Sports, Recreation, Training and Education Complex have been placed under arrest after an anti-corruption probe found they had embezzled funds. Investigators say the damage to the facility exceeds 500,000 manats.

The corruption investigation into the Quba Sports Complex was carried out by the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The inquiry found legal violations in the conduct of Rashid Orujov, director of the complex, which is run by the company Azeridmanservis LLC, and Vidadi Shirinov, who served as the facility’s accountant.

Based on the findings, a criminal case has been opened against both men on charges of embezzlement of funds and abuse of official authority. The financial damage caused to the complex is estimated at more than 500,000 manats.

Binagadi District Court has ruled to place Rashid Orujov and Vidadi Shirinov in pre-trial detention. The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
