Azerbaijan overtakes Israel to climb to 24th in UEFA coefficient ranking

Sabah’s 2-0 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League second round has helped Azerbaijan overtake Israel in the UEFA country coefficient ranking, lifting Azerbaijan to 24th place.

Sabah’s victory over Slavia Prague earned Azerbaijan 0.500 points in the UEFA coefficient ranking. As a result, Azerbaijan’s tally based on the past five seasons rose to 24.187 points. Azerbaijani clubs have collected 5.625 points so far this season alone.

That season tally is currently the second-highest in Europe, behind only Portugal. Azerbaijan now sits above football powerhouses such as England, Spain and Germany in this season’s standings.

Until Tuesday, Azerbaijan ranked third in the season table, behind Portugal and England. But Manchester United’s 0-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid allowed Azerbaijan to leapfrog England.

There were also changes in the club rankings. Sabah climbed from 147th to 130th place after collecting 14 points, eight of them earned this season. Qarabag sit 59th in the same list with 36.250 points.
