Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and Spain’s IE University have signed a framework agreement in Baku to establish an Economic Observatory in the country. The deal opens the door to joint research on economic diversification and competitiveness.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli and IE University’s executive president, Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño. It lays the groundwork for long-term cooperation between the two sides, with the planned Economic Observatory at its core.
Under the document, the Economic Observatory will carry out joint scientific and analytical work aimed at boosting productivity and strengthening the competitiveness of Azerbaijan’s economy. The initiative also envisages deeper ties between government bodies, business representatives and academic institutions.
The observatory is expected to track the country’s economic development trends and study factors that could influence future growth. Regular monitoring and comparative analysis with other countries are also planned.
The scope of the research will be shaped jointly, taking into account both Azerbaijan’s economic priorities and the academic expertise of IE University.
