Kazakhstan’s Border Service, part of the National Security Committee, detained 126 violators and 44 small vessels during preventive operations in the Caspian Sea in October.
The measures were carried out jointly with state agencies to curb illegal activity, including poaching, in the Caspian Sea. As a result, officers found and seized 11.5 kilograms of narcotics.
Border guards also removed illegal fishing nets with a total length of 88 kilometers. Sturgeon and other fish species found in the nets — 2,337 in all — were released back into the water alive.
According to the press service of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee, violators were fined more than 4.5 million tenge (about 16,875 manats) in administrative penalties. Officials also said they prevented potential damage to the state of more than 840 million tenge (about 3.16 million manats).
The Border Service urged citizens to observe the established movement regulations in the Caspian Sea.
