The cost of adding 100 kilograms of live weight to cattle on Azerbaijani farms rose to 574.20 manats in 2025, official statistics show. Poultry farming moved in the opposite direction, with production costs falling over the same period.
Production costs in Azerbaijan’s livestock sector moved in opposite directions across different branches in 2025. According to state statistics, the cost of achieving 100 kilograms of live weight gain in cattle climbed from 415.72 manats in 2024 to 574.20 manats in 2025, an increase of 158.48 manats, or 38.1%.
A similar trend was recorded in sheep and goat farming. The cost of gaining 100 kilograms of live weight in these animals rose from 357.99 manats to 406.11 manats.
Poultry farms told a different story. The cost of adding 100 kilograms of live weight in poultry fell from 495.47 manats in 2024 to 419.74 manats in 2025, a decline of 15.3%.
How sales profitability has shifted
These cost changes have also affected profitability from sales. Profitability on cattle meat sales dropped from 38.1% to 25.6%, while profitability on poultry meat sales rose from 28.4% to 39.1%.
As a result, rising costs in cattle farming have driven down profitability in that sector, while falling costs in poultry farming have pushed its profitability higher.
