Azerbaijan exported 563,300 tonnes of fruit and vegetables worth $671.4 million in January-September, the State Customs Committee has reported. The revenue was $68.9 million higher than in the same period last year.
According to the State Customs Committee, revenue from fruit and vegetable exports rose 11.4% in value terms compared with the same period last year, even though the volume shipped fell by 11,000 tonnes, or 1.9%. The figures suggest that higher prices more than offset the drop in export volume.
Fruit and vegetable exports accounted for 2.8% of Azerbaijan’s total export revenue during the reporting period.
Over the same nine months, Azerbaijan imported 235,150 tonnes of fruit and vegetables worth $219.4 million. While the value of imports edged up 0.4% year on year, the volume dropped 13.1%, or 35,600 tonnes. Spending on fruit and vegetable imports made up 1.6% of the country’s total import costs.
Foreign trade turnover climbs
Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover reached $37.211 billion in the first nine months of the year, up 5.2% from a year earlier. Exports accounted for $23.865 billion of that total, while imports came to $13.346 billion.
Total exports grew 28.3% over the past year, while imports fell 20.4%. As a result, Azerbaijan posted a foreign trade surplus of $10.519 billion, 5.7 times higher than in the same period last year.
