Azerbaijan’s state power company AzerEnergy is building the 5.3-megawatt Eyvazli hydropower plant on the Bargushad River in the liberated Gubadli district, the first station of its kind there.
According to AzerEnergy Open Joint-Stock Company, a main water intake facility meeting environmental standards has been built on the Bargushad River to ensure a stable water supply for the Eyvazli hydropower plant. A 5.3-kilometre diversion pipeline has been laid across difficult terrain, and construction of the plant’s machine hall has already been completed.
Workers are now installing turbines and generators, along with 35-kilovolt and 10-kilovolt enclosed switchgear units. The Eyvazli plant will be equipped with two Francis-type turbines, and construction and installation work is expected to be finished soon.
The new station will be connected to Azerbaijan’s unified power grid through the 110-kilovolt Gubadli substation, which was commissioned in 2021. With the Eyvazli plant, Gubadli will join the list of districts in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories generating green hydropower.
Expected annual output
Once operational, the plant is expected to generate 15.6 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy per year. AzerEnergy says this will also save 3.5 million cubic metres of natural gas annually and prevent 6,400 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
