Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced his resignation, a move that will trigger early presidential elections in the country.
Vucic announced his decision to resign on Sunday, cutting short his second and, under the constitution, final five-year term ahead of schedule.
Vucic has served as head of state since 2017. His second term had been due to run until mid-2027.
Following the resignation, Serbia is expected to call a new presidential election in line with the country’s legislation.
