Uber AZ ride-hailing app rebrands as Heetch AZ in Azerbaijan

The Uber AZ ride-hailing app operating in Azerbaijan has changed its commercial name to Heetch AZ. The update appears on its Apple App Store and Google Play pages, with no change to the services on offer.

According to Banker.az, the app previously known as Uber AZ in Azerbaijan now tells users about the name change: the “Uber AZ” brand will from now on be known as “Heetch,” though its existing functionality and range of services remain unchanged. A new “H” logo for the app has already appeared on Google Play, though some older promotional materials may still carry the previous Uber AZ branding.

The change affects only the app’s appearance and commercial name, while its technical identifier remains the same. No official update has yet been issued regarding the legal entity that runs the service in Azerbaijan.

According to information released by Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office in June 2025, the company behind the app was once registered as “Uber Azerbaijan” LLC and is now registered as “Ridetech” LLC. Google Play listings show the app’s developer as WIND Mobility.

The service continues to offer its Standard, Comfort, Smart, Premium and Express taxi categories. Passengers can still pay by cash or bank card and track their trip route in real time, as before.

Uber’s history in the Azerbaijani market

US-based Uber Technologies entered the Azerbaijani market in April 2015, first launching its premium UberBLACK service in Baku. The company later added the more affordable uberX option for customers.

In 2017, Uber and Russia’s Yandex technology company signed an agreement to merge their ride-hailing businesses in a number of markets, including Azerbaijan. The deal closed in February 2018, folding Uber’s Azerbaijan operations into the structure of the joint venture. In subsequent years, Yandex gradually increased its stake in the joint venture.

In April 2023, Yandex bought out Uber’s remaining 28.98% stake in the joint venture for $702.5 million, bringing Uber Technologies’ involvement in the business to a complete end.
