Both premiums collected and compensation paid out under mandatory insurance against industrial accidents and occupational diseases dropped year-on-year in the first eight months of this year, according to Central Bank data.
Insurance companies paid out 2.856 million manats in compensation to clients under mandatory insurance covering workplace accidents and occupational diseases in January-August 2026, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) reported. That compares with about 3.603 million manats in the same period last year — a decline of 746,900 manats, or 20.7%.
The drop in premiums collected for this insurance product was even steeper. Insurers gathered 42.151 million manats in premiums in the reporting period, down from 66.986 million manats a year earlier — a 37.1% fall, representing a loss of roughly 25 million manats.
Because premiums fell faster than payouts, the ratio between compensation and premiums collected has shifted. Last year, payouts amounted to 5.4% of premiums collected; this year that figure rose to 6.8%.
