Argentine football has expanded its domestic competition system, creating a new tournament called the Trophy of Champions Cup to crown the country’s strongest club.
Argentina’s football authorities have overhauled the format of the country’s domestic competitions, adding a new stage designed to identify the strongest club of the season.
Under the new rules, the winners of the Apertura and Clausura tournaments will first face each other in a match called the Champions Cup. The winner of that game will earn the right to compete in both the Argentine Super Cup and the International Super Cup.
The winner of the Copa Argentina will qualify directly for the Argentine Super Cup. In addition, the club that finishes with the most points in the season’s overall standings will also take part in the International Super Cup.
As the culmination of all these stages, the Trophy of Champions Cup will be held at the end of the season, bringing together the winners of the Copa Argentina, the Argentine Super Cup and the International Super Cup. The winner of that match will be declared the undisputed champion of the country.
