Azerbaijani judoka Ibrahim Talibov won the country’s first gold medal at the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, topping the podium in the men’s -55kg category.
Judoka Ibrahim Talibov claimed gold for Azerbaijan in the -55kg category after winning the final at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The young athlete’s victory marked the national team’s first top prize of the tournament.
Speaking after the competition, the young champion said words could not describe the joy of winning. He added that he had kept his word by raising his country’s flag to the highest position.
Talibov thanked his family and coaching staff for their role in his success. He said he owed much to the hard work of his family and coaches, and that for now he was only thinking about resting.
Azerbaijan’s team at Dakar 2026
A total of 13 Azerbaijani athletes are competing in eight sports at the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games, held in the Senegalese capital Dakar. The Games are expected to run until November 13.
