Azerbaijani adaptive athletes won four medals – one gold, one silver and two bronze – at a Special Olympics judo tournament in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Kamran Guliyev claimed the title in his weight category (G-10), beating every opponent he faced to become tournament champion. His teammate Sadig Nazirov, competing in the G-2 category, took silver.
The rest of the squad also contributed to the strong overall result: Adila Niftaliyeva, competing in the G-24 category, and Yusif Nasirli, in G-7, both won bronze medals.
Organizers noted that the tournament marked the first international competition for all four athletes.
Adaptive judo allows people with special needs to take part in the sport under rules adjusted to their physical abilities, helping them integrate into society through athletics.
