Azerbaijan’s deaf athletes claimed three gold medals at the European Shotokan karate championship held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The tournament was organized under the World Shotokan Federation (WSF) format, the press service of the Azerbaijan Deaflympic Committee said. Azerbaijan’s deaf athletes topped the podium three times in the Sofia event.
Aytan Gadirova took first place in the kata program. In kumite, Hikmat Agayev won gold in the men’s +18 age category at 60 kilograms, while Elmin Huseynli claimed gold in the 75-kilogram division.
Three Azerbaijani athletes thus reached the top step of the podium at the European championship in Sofia.
