Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee says it has neutralised a group that attempted to violently seize power in the western Atyrau region, detaining 10 people suspected of plotting to overthrow the constitutional order.
According to the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, the detained individuals belonged to a criminal group that tried to seize power in the Atyrau region by force. They are suspected of creating and leading an extremist group, promoting terrorism and inciting religious hatred.
Searches at the suspects’ residences turned up firearms, narcotics, religious literature and equipment, along with other items considered potential evidence, all of which were seized.
Authorities also shut down three secret training centres the group had set up for children and teenagers.
