SOCAR’s Azneft Production Union has put into operation fixed offshore platform No. 50 at the West Absheron field. The first well on the platform has already been drilled and production has begun.
According to Azneft Production Union, the new West Absheron platform is designed for a total of 16 wells. Drilling and development work is being carried out using modern technology and a geological model built with computer software.
The union said expanding the infrastructure capacity of oil and gas fields remains one of SOCAR’s strategic goals, with steady steps being taken in this direction.
About the West Absheron field
The West Absheron field lies in the Caspian Sea, in the northwestern part of the Absheron archipelago, north of the Absheron Peninsula, about 65 kilometers from Baku. The field was discovered in 1958 and is known for its harsh climate and weather conditions.
The field’s oil-bearing potential is linked to the Kirmaki and Lower Kirmaki layers of the productive strata. Production from these layers has been underway since 1996.
