Interfax: Aliyev hails success of Baku-Berlin energy cooperation

President Ilham Aliyev said relations between Baku and Berlin have reached the stage of a strategic partnership, in a congratulatory message to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier marking Germany’s national holiday, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported.

According to the agency, Aliyev said in his message that Azerbaijan is an important and reliable partner for Germany in the South Caucasus region, adding that great importance is attached to developing inter-state ties across all areas.

Interfax noted that in July this year, Azerbaijan and Germany signed a Joint Declaration defining the long-term direction of bilateral relations. The Azerbaijani leader said the document laid the foundation for a new stage of strategic partnership between the two countries.

In the letter cited by the agency, Aliyev said sustained political dialogue is driving stronger bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy, energy, transport, communications, investment, humanitarian affairs and other fields. He stressed that this is also making a significant contribution to deepening mutual relations across the Eurasian space and to effective partnership in the energy sector.

Interfax reported that the Azerbaijani leader expressed confidence that relations between Baku and Berlin would grow stronger in the future. Aliyev also said he hoped cooperation between the two sides would deepen both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union.

The congratulatory message was sent on the occasion of German Unity Day, Germany’s national holiday.
