UK export credit agency UKEF opens £5 billion limit for Azerbaijan

Britain’s UK Export Finance (UKEF) has set aside a £5 billion financing limit to support projects in Azerbaijan, an agency representative said, adding that only a small share of the funds has been used so far.

Natalya Sergeyeva, UKEF’s co-head of global business origination, said at the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum that the vast majority of the agency’s £5 billion limit for Azerbaijan remains untapped. She said this leaves broad room to attract additional capital to the country.

Sergeyeva said the funds could be directed toward clean energy, transport, projects tied to the Middle Corridor trade route, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centres.

“We have a £5 billion limit for Azerbaijan, and only a small portion of it has been deployed so far,” she said.

The UKEF representative also said the agency can help build connections between Azerbaijani partners and British companies, which she said is important for aligning projects with UK financing requirements.

Sergeyeva added that UKEF works alongside international banks and export credit agencies to structure projects so they are investment-ready and bankable. She said the agency offers a full package of financial support for projects considered important to the country.

She also clarified how UKEF’s cooperation with the Baku Stock Exchange works, saying UKEF provides guarantees while the Baku Stock Exchange serves as a separate source of capital.
