Passenger train service between Khirdalan and Sumgayit will restart once repair work on a bridge in the Bilajari-Khirdalan section is completed, a railway official says.
Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who heads the public relations department at Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), said train service on the Khirdalan-Sumgayit route would be restored shortly.
Service on the route had initially been due to resume on September 15, but the schedule had to be changed after defects were discovered in a bridge between Bilajari and Khirdalan.
Hajiyev said an inspection carried out using a special diagnostic train had revealed the need for urgent repair work on the bridge. He said passenger service on the line would resume once the repairs and the necessary follow-up checks are complete.
