Kazakhstan replaces defence minister after deadly Caspian Sea incident

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has dismissed Defence Minister Dauren Kosanov following an incident in the Caspian Sea that killed several servicemen.

The dismissal was confirmed by a presidential decree. Tokayev’s press service announced the move in a statement.

The statement said Dauren Kosanov no longer heads the country’s defence ministry and had been removed from the post.

The leadership change comes after a tragic incident in the Caspian Sea in which several servicemen died. No further details about the incident have been made public.
