Son-in-law of late actor Ramiz Azizbayli arrested on charges of fraud over 600,000 manats

Baku’s Nasimi District Court has ordered the pre-trial detention of Rufat Gasimzade, son-in-law of late People’s Artist Ramiz Azizbayli, along with co-defendant Mammad Mammadzade. Both are accused of defrauding victims of more than 600,000 manats.

The Nasimi District Court has ordered a one-month pre-trial detention for Rufat Gasimzade, 36, and Mammad Mammadzade, 37, in a fraud case involving more than 600,000 manats. Both men face charges under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code, which covers fraud causing damage on a particularly large scale.

Gasimzade’s name first became linked to a large-scale fraud scheme in February this year. Law enforcement agencies launched an investigation after social media users began spreading information about the case.

During the inquiry, officers from the Interior Ministry’s Police Department for Water Transport detained the two men on suspicion of defrauding victims of 317,000 manats under the pretext of selling gold jewelry. According to APA, the total alleged damage exceeds 600,000 manats.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code, and both Rufat Gasimzade and Mammad Mammadzade are defendants in the investigation.
