Girls’ Education Support programme marks fifth anniversary in Baku

Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Affairs held an event marking five years of the “Support for Girls’ Education” programme. Officials and participants discussed the project’s results and steps taken to expand girls’ access to education.

The State Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Affairs has held a ceremony marking five years of the “Support for Girls’ Education” programme. The initiative runs with joint support from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and the Education Development Foundation.

The event opened with the national anthem. Guests then watched a documentary film highlighting the programme’s steps over the past five years, its achievements and the work done to broaden girls’ access to education.

Committee chair: educating girls is key to national progress

State Committee chair Bahar Muradova said in her remarks that the 125th anniversary of the opening of the girls’ school and the fifth year of the programme’s implementation carry both historic and social significance. She said creating conditions for girls to pursue education is one of the essential conditions for society’s advancement, the country’s progress and the welfare of future generations.

Muradova also stressed that the educational legacy of Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev still holds value today. She called on state institutions, universities, business circles and accomplished women to join the effort.

Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev said in his address that funds directed toward girls’ education serve the progress of the whole society, not just individuals, and help raise the country’s intellectual potential.

Participants share personal experiences

Education Development Foundation head Nijat Mammadli said the programme opens wider opportunities for girls in education and ensures equal conditions. He said the involvement of new partners would further expand the initiative’s scale.

Araz Pashayev, head of the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Science and Education Employees, noted that the project provides financial and moral support to a significant number of students each year while also giving them a chance to gain practical work experience.

Fatima Eyyub, the fifth winner of the “Yukselish” competition, said in her remarks that education gives people freedom of choice and called the programme a clear demonstration of belief in girls’ strength. Nuray Shirinli, a Baku State University student studying under the Hanifa Malikova-Zardabi scholarship programme, and Chinara Mammadova, a student at Azerbaijan University of Languages, shared how the project has shaped their own lives.

The event concluded with a musical programme.
