A Wizz Air flight from London to Sofia made an emergency landing in Budapest after a bomb threat, Hungarian Defence Minister Romulus Rusin-Szendi said.
The Wizz Air emergency landing was triggered after NATO’s air defence service issued an ALPHA alert over the threat, Rusin-Szendi said. Hungarian Armed Forces Gripen fighter jets, scrambled after being alerted to the emergency, were airborne within minutes.
The fighter jets escorted the affected aircraft to Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The minister shared the statement on social media.
No further details about the incident have been released.
