Salaries for Azerbaijan’s Defence Ministry servicemen, after taxes and other mandatory payments, will rise by an average of 22.8%, under a bill discussed at the Milli Majlis Committee on Defence, Security and Anti-Corruption.
The Milli Majlis Committee on Defence, Security and Anti-Corruption has discussed a bill amending the Tax Code as well as laws governing the status of military personnel and the operations of the police, customs, prosecution, interior, intelligence and counterintelligence, justice, migration and emergency services agencies. Under the bill, salaries for all Defence Ministry servicemen will rise by an average of 22.8% after deductions for mandatory payments.
The draft also proposes changes to the pension system. Under the new rules, the current link between pension amounts and the cost of benefits will be scrapped. Instead, pension size will be determined based on the pension capital accumulated in each individual’s personal account.
The salary structure will also change: the current base position salary will be replaced by a rank-based salary, with the share of rank pay rising to as much as 70%. Officials say the move will improve servicemen’s welfare while encouraging them to stay in service longer.
