Rufat Aliyev, a state tax inspector at the State Tax Service’s Territorial Tax Department No. 12 under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy, has been charged with bribery and placed under arrest.
The Prosecutor General’s Office’s Main Department for Combating Corruption and the State Tax Service announced the tax inspector’s arrest in a joint statement.
According to the statement, the Main Department for Combating Corruption launched investigative measures after receiving information from the State Tax Service about Rufat Aliyev’s unlawful actions. A criminal case was opened under the relevant article of the Criminal Code.
The investigation established that in September 2026, while auditing a businessman operating in the city of Ganja, Rufat Aliyev took a bribe in exchange for reducing the amount of a financial penalty imposed on the businessman.
Based on the evidence gathered, Rufat Aliyev was charged under Article 311.2 of the Criminal Code — taking a bribe by an official for unlawful actions. At the request of the investigative body and on the motion of the prosecutor overseeing the case, a court ordered his arrest as a preventive measure.
